BENAKI MUSEUM
TOYS IN THE CASTLE

Representative toys of the European bourgeoisie as well as Greek toys of the common people from the collections of the Benaki Museum are exhibited in the castle’s halls. European commercial toys were crafted by specialized craftsmen in Germany, France, Britain and Italy with characteristic perfection and luxury, while Greek handmade, home-handicraft toys manufactured with natural materials and household articles that were no longer of use are typical for their resourcefulness and simplicity of manufacture. We hope that this exhibition will not only enhance our knowledge, but that it will also take us back to our childhood and most of all, that it is appreciated by the children who visit us.
Exhibition curator: Maria Argyriadi, Head of the Department of Childhood and of the Toys’ Collection of the Benaki Museum
